Custom Assay Development: From Target List to Finished Kit

September 15, 2026 · Bandit Biosystems

Technical note

When a stock panel doesn't cover what you need, Bandit Biosystems designs singleplex and multiplex qPCR and RT-qPCR assays to your targets, dye set and instrument. Most projects are delivered in 3 to 10 weeks.

How a project runs

  1. Scope. You send your targets, sample type, instrument and expected throughput. We confirm feasibility, format and timeline in writing.
  2. Design. Our molecular biologists design primers and probes and assign dyes to fit your instrument's channels.
  3. Optimize. We optimize the assay with a matched master mix and build positive controls where needed.
  4. Deliver. You receive a finished kit with documentation, and we support your lab through setup and verification.

What to send us

  • Targets: organism, gene or variant names, and sequences or accession numbers for anything unusual.
  • Sample type: for example swab, urine, tissue or veterinary specimen, plus your extraction method.
  • Instrument: the model and the dye channels available.
  • Format: singleplex or multiplex, and any limit on tube count.
  • Volume: expected reactions per month, which tells us whether to plan for pilot lots or routine supply.

A faster start

Lay out your targets in the panel designer and send the layout. It gives our team a concrete starting point, and you'll get a reply with feasibility, tube count, dye channels and timeline.
